Scientific paper

Investigations have included observations and analysis of the solar and interplanetary quantities relevant to geomagnetic activity. The operation of the Wilcox Solar Observatory and analysis of the synoptic observations of magnetic fields has constituted a significant part of the effort. Emphasis has been to attempt to understand the timing and severity of geomagnetic disturbances by understanding the solar mechanisms responsible for the origin of solar wind variations.
