The SDSS sample of cataclysmic cariables uncovered for the first time the period minimum spike predicted by models of binary evolution. Serious discrepancies between observations and theoretical models still remain, however. Here we give a brief summary of the current status of our SDSS follow-up work and discuss an ongoing project to extend the SDSS sample of CVs to even fainter magnitudes.
