Scientific paper

Venus observations made in the especially favorable observing period in
the spring of 1988 are discussed. The circumstances which made this
period so favorable are reviewed, and the instrumental adjustments which
were made to obtain the benefit are described. Some of the resulting
photographs are shown, and what they reveal about Venus is discussed.
