The majority of X-ray-emitting Sy 1 galaxies are characterized by (1) strong UV emission and (2) relatively large B - V color index. The first property implies that the nuclei of these Sy 1's are brighter than those of the non-X-ray-emitting Sy 1 galaxies. The second property implies that the continuum spectrum of the nucleus has two components and that the intensity of one of them increases with frequency. This interpretation is in agreement with photometric observations of nuclei whose flux varies and also with spectrometric observations. Numerous Sy 1's, not yet identified as X-ray sources, have the second property and should be good candidates as X-ray sources when detector sensitivities increase.
