The detection and the measurements of emission lines in the Orion Nebula in the near-infrared are reported. The intensities of some He I lines are found to be enhanced over what is expected on the basis of simple recombination. The observed effect is consistent with the predictions of Robbins on the basis of self-absorption of the He I lambda 3187 line. The strength of the helium lines not affected by such complications implies a He(+)/H(+) ratio of 0.087 plus or minus 0.006, a value in agreement with other recent determinations and one expected to be of high reliability. The results obtained in measurements of a Fe II line suggest that Fe(+) represents a small fraction of the total iron.
