M17 has been observed with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope at a frequency of 4.995 GHz (6 cm wavelength) with a resolution of 7 x 40 arcsec. Comparison with single-dish measurements indicates that about 30% of the total flux density of M17 originates in structures larger than 4 arcmin. The northern complex, G15.1-0.7, is quite diffuse and only about 45% of the single-dish flux density is detected. By contrast, essentially all of the flux density of the southern complex (G15.0-0.7) is contained in the map. A 6-cm point source of about 450 mJy is coincident with the 10.6-micron point source found by Harper et al. (1976).
