It is suggested that observed local (about 100 km) magnetic fields on the moon and the relatively large field at its initial stage of evolution are due to the temperature and compositional inhomogenities of the inner regions of the moon. The importance of this type of inhomogeneity at the core-mantle boundary to the process of terrestrial magnetic field generation is demonstrated.
