The optical light curve of the 1983 minor outburst of GK Per obtained by the AAVSO is presented in the context of the last few outbursts, which in general follow a rising trend in brightness. An optical spectrum obtained at the peak of outburst, showing enhanced He II and C III + N III emission, is compared to the outburst spectra of other cataclysmic variables (novae, dwarf novae, and nova-likes).
