The magnetic field of a neutron star involved in the rapid burster MXB
1730-335 is studied using a MHD instability model for type II bursts. It
is suggested that the magnetic field on the surface is about 10 to the
8th G. The radius of the magnetosphere is estimated to be about 10 km.
Observational evidence supporting this hypothesis is examined.
