The evolution of low-mass binaries is studied for the case when the secondary fills its Roche lobe at the stage of core hydrogen exhaustion. The variation of the surface chemical composition of the secondary is studied and the values of the surface hydrogen content are shown as a function of the orbital period. It is proposed that MXB 1916-05 is the progenitor of the system MXB 1820-30 and is ascending toward short orbital periods.
