Hst Proposal Id #6145 Solar System

Scientific paper

We propose to obtain a Wide Field Camera image of Jupiter using the UV Wood's filter to delineate the spatial morphology of the Jovian aurora at the time that the Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope (HUT) on the Astro-2 space shuttle mission is observing the far UV (500-1800A) spectrum of the north polar aurora. The two nearly-simultaneous observations are completely synergistic in that the unique HUT spectroscopic capability is complementary to that of HST.
