The present consideration of the effect of rapid rotation on the envelope of a neutron star is prompted by the discovery of millisecond pulsars. Expressions for envelope density and oblateness are obtained as functions of radius and polar angle by solving the hydrostatic equilibrium equation. A stationary, axially symmetric form of the metric, a uniformly rotating ideal fluid, and a negligible contribution of the envelope to the gravitational field, are assumed.
