Photometric solutions are made on several photoelectric light curves of S Cancri previously published by Crawford and Olson (1980). Two widely independent methods are employed to give adopted equivalent volume radii of rA = 0.0860 and rB = 0.1880, and an orbital inclination of i = 85.31 deg. Spectrophotometric observations are presented and analyzed to give revised spectral classifications of B9.5 V and G8 to K0 III and temperatures of TA = 10,500 K and TB = 4750 to 4500 K for the components. The cool Roche-lobe-filling secondary exhibits changes in color with phase due to oblateness and reflection. Anomalous photometric behavior is correlated with changes in a nonstellar Ca II K-line absorption feature that suggests the presence of an extended atmosphere around the cool mass-losing component. This is a phenomenon never before noted in Algol-type binaries.
