A reasonable maximum likelihood statistic is used to determine the mean absolute magnitudes and kinematics for different star subgroups from the Shanghai Observatory compilation, which includes 168 local RR Lyrae variables. Our reduction indicates the mean absolute magnitudes on the intensity mean magnitude base of 0.62 + or - 0.12 mag for 142 RR(ab) stars and 0.69 + or - 0.16 mag for 77 metal-poor RR(ab) stars. A detailed discussion indicates that the statistical method used and the values obtained are likely to be reasonable.
