Space Vehicles, Gamma Rays: Observations

Scientific paper

The INTEGRAL observatory will address the fine spectroscopy (2keV FWHM at 1MeV) and accurate imaging (12arcmin FWHM) of celestial gamma-ray sources in the important 15keV to 10MeV energy range. INTEGRAL will be launched in 2001. Shortly before this symposium, ESA has completed the selection process for the scientific instruments to be flown on INTEGRAL, the INTEGRAL Science Data Centre and Mission Scientists, and the project is now in its Phase B development stage. A summary of the key scientific goals of the mission, the selected payload, the spacecraft, as well as elements of the science ground segment including the INTEGRAL Science Data Centre, science operations and the guest observer programme will be given.
