The collisional scattering of planetary ring particles is studied in terms of a kinematic model of spinning hard spheres. The model interaction between identical hard spheres is characterized by the inelasticity of the particle material and the friction on the particle surface. In the local principal coordinates of the viscous stress tensor the post-collision relative velocity of a colliding pair, averaged over the pre-collision spin, is evaluated for a variety of impact parameters and azimuthal angles with respect to the pre-collision relative velocity. Several model interactions with different inelasticity and surface friction are examined.
