The shape of a curve representing the axis of a filament of finite length in equilibrium in an external magnetic field is studied. The magnetic field of the filament is a twisted flux tube. The ends of the tube are anchored at the photosphere. The direction of the filament current corresponds to models of inverse polarity. When the angle gamma between the magnetic field and the axis of the filament becomes greater than ~ 30(deg) , a dip arises in the middle part of the equilibrium contour which represents the filament axis. This dip can be treated as necessary condition for cold dense material accumulation in the filament flux tube.
