Dual-epoch 10.7 GHz VLBI observations of the large, lobe-dominated quasar 3C 47 reveal a component moving with an apparent transverse velocity of (3.7+0.9-0.7) h-1c (with H0 = 100 h km s-1 Mpc-1, q0 = 0.5). 3C 47 is the most strongly lobe-dominated superluminal found to date, and it has the largest projected linear extent in our complete, low-frequency selected sample. Its moderately large superluminal motion is difficult to understand in the light of simple relativistic beaming models and popular unification hypotheses.
