The first attempt is made of a complete analysis of the competitions in astronomy of pupils in primary and secondary schools in Serbia, in the period 1965 - 1996. The retrospection comprises the foundation and objectives of the movement "Science to Youth". General conclusion is that these competitions completely justified their existence because they yielded four doctors and three masters of sciences in astronomy and physics and many graduates in astronomy, physics, techniques etc. This review is not complete because the archives of the organization "Science to Youth" is not preserved.
