A Strömgren uvby survey has been made of nearly all Henry Draper stars of type G5 and brighter than mυ = 8.6. The HD stars of type GO between mυ = 8.3 and 8.4 have also been surveyed. The photometric results are presented in a homogeneous, all-sky catalogue containing 14 911 uvby observations of 10 151 stars. The overall internal rms errors of one observation (transformed to the standard systems) of a program star in the interval 6.5 < V < 8.5 are 0.0047, 0.0029, 0.0041, and 0.0058, respectively, in V, b - y, m1, and c1. The purpose of the catalogue is to provide a basis for an investigation of the metallicity distribution of long-lived main-sequence stars. An extension of the Strömgren uvby photometric system to stars that are cooler, more luminous, and more metal-poor than the original set of primary standard stars of types G and K is discussed in some detail. In this connection, the present catalogue has been compared to some earlier uvby catalogues containing G- and K-type stars. Small systematic differences are found and discussed.
