Both Chandra gratings exceed spectral resolution of 1000 but only at the longest wavelengths and with relatively low effective areas. I will discuss recent Chandra results from cool star spectral observations showing temperature density and abundance diagnostic measurements and illustrating the extent of line blending at this resolution. I will also show results from X-ray Doppler imaging for one rapidly rotating system and discuss the implications for future work. Chandra grating observations of extended objects exhibit source/spectral confusion but are nevertheless also instructive as examples of diagnostic needs. Measurements of temperature and charge state for supernova remnants are critical tests for non-equilibrium ionization models while velocity measurements will help to trace the evolution of the remnant. These examples will give the flavor of the types of questions that may be routinely addressed by the next generation of X-ray instruments.
