Synchrotron-radiation data are used to investigate the charge composition of the electrons (i.e., the content of electrons and positrons) in the radiation belts of Earth and Jupiter. Possible experimental techniques for measuring the sign of high-energy electrons in the radiation belts are examined, with particular attention given to measurements of the circular polarization of synchrotron radiation.
