On 2001 June 29, Campaign for Dark Skies local officer for Gwynedd, John Rowlands (right), presented the BAA CfDS Good Lighting Award to the Minister of Transport in the Welsh Assembly, Sue Essex. The Award mentioned specifically the lighting scheme on the new A55 Anglesey expressway, for which the Welsh Transport Directorate ordered cut-off lamp designs.
