The wavelength of the lithium resonance line in the carbon star Y CVn has been measured on seven spectrograms of 10 A/mm dispersion. The mean wavelength is 6707.851 + or - 0.007 A. This implies that the lithium content of the atmosphere of Y CVn is about 10% Li-6, with limits from zero to 20%. The absence or low abundance of Li-6 favors the hypothesis that the lithium in carbon stars is produced by fusion of He-4 and He-3 rather than by spallation of C-13 and N-14.
