The local velocity fields of three types of A-type and B-type stars have been derived from the stellar proper motions and radial velocities. The local velocity fields were fitted to the Oort-Linblad model of galactic rotation, and the results are discussed. The motion of 440 stars younger than 5 x 10 to the 7th years yielded a velocity field for A-type stars of 9.1 + or -4.0 km/s. per kpc, and a B-type velocity field of -15.7 + or -3.6 kms per kpc, with l(0) = 91 + or -21 degrees. The velocity field of the A-type stars, which was derived from the radial velocities was 8.6 + or -1.9 km/s per kpc, 1(0) = -26 + or -7 degrees. The results are used to explain the observations of Tsioumis and Fricke (1979) of differences the velocity fields of type A stars which are derived from proper motions and radial velocities respectively. It is shown that the Oort-Linblad model of galactic rotation does not apply to young stars, due to the large degree of error in the kinematic parameters.
