A description is given of four hypotheses related to the fluid density in the universe, the intensity of the mass field at a space-time point, relations between particle mass and time, the effects produced by local variations of the q parameter, and considerations regarding a surface on which the mass field is zero. It is pointed out that the different models of Hoyle and Narlikar imply a variation of the constant of gravitation as a function of time. The effects of an extension of stellar volume are considered. The relative position of the theory of Hoyle and Narlikar with respect to other cosmological theories is briefly evaluated.
