The intensity of the zodiacal light at 2150, 2950, 3450, and 5000 A was measured by a balloon-borne telescope at a float altitude of 41.1 km. The extinction per unit air mass due to stratospheric ozone was 0.36 and 0.25 m at wavelengths 2150 and 2950 A, respectively. Airglow intensity was measured to be 0.77 R/A at 2950 A and less than 0.05 R/A at 2150 A. The main finding is that the zodiacal light spectrum agrees with a relative solar spectrum within the error limits. The neutral scattering behavior of the zodiacal cloud demonstrated by these and other balloon-borne measurements from 2150 to 24,000 A indicates that small particles cannot be responsible for most of the zodiacal light brightness, since they would lead to a blue color with respect to the sun.
