The ratio R of the 1s2 1S0-1s2s 3S1 forbidden line flux to the 1s2 1S0-1s2p 3P intercombination line flux for Ne IX is density sensitive. The analysis of published high-resolution spectra obtained by the X-Ray Polychromator on the SMM leads to the suggestion that, at high temperatures, the intercombination line is blended with an unidentified line, probably arising from Fe XIX. This would lead to erroneous determinations of the electron density in solar flares.
