We propose to conduct a Gemini-South/PHOENIX radial velocity survey of 50 L-dwarfs, with a measurement precision and baseline sufficient to detect companions with a mass of Jupiter or greater, with orbital periods of 1 year of less. This survey for planetary companions of brown dwarfs and the very lowest-mass stars provides the natural complement to Doppler searches of nearby F,G,K, and early-M stars. Planets detected by this work will be amenable to direct study, due to the reduced contrast ratio between the planet and central object. Additional science products of this survey will include the likely detection of the first few spectroscopic binary L-dwarfs, as well as accurate estimates of the rotational velocities and system velocities of all targets.
