Advances in the resolving power obtainable with the instruments of radio astronomy have made it possible to employ the approaches of this comparatively new field of astronomy in astrometrical studies. The gradual increase in the resolving power is connected with the design of radio telescopes of large diameters, the employment of certain mathematical evaluation procedures, and the utilization of radio wave interference methods. Various approaches for increasing the accuracy of the interference methods are discussed. The enhancement in the accuracy of positional measurements could be utilized in a number of applications, including measurements of the drift rate of the continents on earth, determinations of the rotational motions of the earth, the study of motions taking place in the solar planetary system, and the investigation of motions in the Galaxy.
