A comprehensive timetable of lunar evolution is presented. Surface-layer exposure ages, crater counts, and Rb-Sr, U-Pb, and K-Ar dating methods are discussed. Conclusions drawn from lunar research include (1) all planetary objects probably formed within 100 million years from the solar nebula, beginning at 4.6 billion years ago; (2) accretion of terrestrial planets was rapid; (3) moon-sized objects underwent crustal differentiation during the first few hundred million years; and (4) the density of planetary debris has decreased exponentially with half life around 200 million years.
