It is shown that measurements of the central intensity of the He I
λ10830 line can be used to numerically estimate the coronal UV
flux illuminating the chromosphere. The analysis is based on non-LTE
calculations of He I level populations. The VAL-C model atmosphere was
used with additional coronal UV-illumination considered as a parameter.
