Field-normal plasma-line scattering at radio frequencies has been observed during ionospheric heating experiments. An experiment to search for this scattering mode in the auroral ionosphere was carried out. The results are found to be negative by many orders of magnitude. This underlines the importance of the coherency of the heating wave for production of the scattering effects observed during the heating experiments.
