Data are presented on the large-scale distribution of H II regions and OB associations in the Galaxy and in nearby spiral galaxies. Both H II regions and OB associations form several ring-shaped structures in each galaxy. The peaks in the distribution of OB associations are shifted toward the center of the galaxy relative to the peaks in the distribution of H II regions. The discovery of ring structures in normal galaxies appears to cast doubt on collisional theories for the origin of ring galaxies.
