The Origem Loop is a ring-like feature in the radio continuum emission at 178 MHz. Observations are consistent with its being a supernova remnant about 1 kpc distant, with a 60 pc radius, a 20 pc shell thickness, expanding at 20 km/s, and having an age of about 1,000,000 years. High-emission regions are seen in the shell and several Sharpless H II regions containing early-type stars may be part of the shell. This suggests that star formation either has taken place inside the shell or has been triggered or speeded up by the passage of the shock through the clumpy interstellar medium.
