Two recently suggested hypotheses for the explanation of the disagreement between theory and observation of the solar neutrino flux are discussed. It is shown that the two theories - namely, the dependence of the weak interaction coupling constant on the gravitational potential and a high initial abundance of He-3 - cannot reduce the predicted neutrino flux to below the present-day upper limit.
