Results concerning the galactic halo in NGC 891 are presented based on high-resolution WSRT observations (21 and 6 cm) and Palomar (U prime, J, F) data. Both data sets have been smoothed to 20 x 20 arcsec Gaussian resolution. The z-distribution of the radio continuum emission is accurately decomposed into a thin disk and a thick disk. The almost constant spectral index found in Z argues against the simple diffusion and convection model. The explosion model of You et al. (1986) is shown to be consistent with many of the observed features. The galaxy is found to be north-south asymmetric, the northern side being bluer and brighter in surface photometry.
