Comet Giacobini-Zinner was observed during an 18 day interval just prior
to its perihelion passage. The 1.667 GHz OH line appeared in absorption,
as expected, but showed large intensity fluctuations from day to day.
Comparisons are made with subsequent observations of comet Halley.
