Minor planets 6 (Hebe), 7 (Iris), 8 (Flora), 9 (Metis), and 15 (Eunomia) were used to determine the equator and equinox errors of the FK4 catalog system. Other quantities derived were: the secular variations of the equator and equinox; the elements of earth's orbit; the secular variation of the obliquity; and a correction to Newcomb's general precession in longitude. The analysis was based on a total of 14,761 observations in right ascension and 14,515 in declination. It was possible to reduce 73% of these to the FK4. The main results of the study are: the correction to the precession is 1.282 (+ or - 0.240) arcsec; the equator and equinox corrections at epoch 1950 are, respectively, -0.030 (+ or - 0.037) arcsec and 0.237(+ or - 0.345) arcsec; the motion of the equinox is 0.746 (+ or - 0.210) arcsec; the secular variation of the obliquity caused by a motion of the ecliptic is -0.319 (+ or - 0.164) arcsec; and the secular variation of the obliquity caused by a motion of the equator is -0.193 (+ or - 0.105) arcsec. But evidence is presented to show that these secular variations of the obliquity are more fictitious than real. All errors quoted are mean errors.
