Numerical computations were carried out for a linear series of steady-state models of a 7-solar-mass star consisting of a hydrogen-rich envelope and a pure helium core of varying mass. The linear series starts at the hydrogen main sequence and terminates at the helium main sequence. Eleven branches of solutions were encountered, with a maximum of seven simultaneous solutions of the stellar structure equations for a model of given mass and chemical composition. By discussing core and envelope structures separately in the U-V diagram, the physical causes of the various solution branches could be elucidated.
