We have discovered diffuse Hα emission at a velocity of 1713 +.- 4 km s^-1^ in the vicinity of the line of sight to the quasar 3C 273. The flux of this line emission is 11.7 +/- 1.8 x 10^-19^ ergs cm^-2^ sec^-1^ arcsec^-1^, and appears to be uniformly distributed over a region of at least 7.7' diameter about the quasar. The velocity of the emission agrees with that of one of the Lyα forest clouds along the line of sight to the quasar and thus is presumably part of the structure responsible for this Lyα absorption. The emission seems to arise from diffuse ionized gas within the Virgo cluster of galaxies, which is along the sightline to 3C 273.
