The average number of supernovas per galaxy is determined for several galaxies, and the frequency of supernova outbursts in double and interacting galaxies is compared with the number of outbursts in field galaxies. It is found that the frequency of supernova outbursts per unit luminosity is substantially higher in pair and interacting galaxies than in isolated noninteracting galaxies, and it is suggested that massive stars are formed at a higher rate per unit luminosity in interacting galaxies.
