Astrophysical constraints are imposed on the maximum binding energy of a tight binary star whose hardening through gravitational interactions with single stars will be able to raise the total energy or heat the stellar system containing the binary. When maximum binding energy is achieved, the tight binary will be ejected from the system due to the recoil from an encounter with a single star. It is also shown that in a stellar system with a large velocity dispersion, the maximum binding energy to which a tight pair can harden will be limited by the internal evolutionary processes of the pair.
