Since the discovery of a 283-s pulsation of an X-ray binary Vela X-1,
several observations have revealed that its pulse period was decreasing
with an average value of -0.0005 per year. The spin-down phenomenon is
considered as a manifestation of the dynamical behavior caused by the
internal structure of a neutron star.
