The benefits that may be derived from a small processing system's preliminary selection of features of interest for more intensive study in the processing of planetary imagery are assessed. The basis for a system using low cost electronic modules and a microcomputer, in conjunction with closed circuit television and color video monitor, is outlined, and it is shown that the system is highly adaptable to the requirements of individual projects.
