Multispectral astronomical images are typically characterized by significant correlations between the intensities in different spectral bands on a global scale. Thus, simple colour enhancements based upon individual images are often ineffective in revealing subtle colour variations. In this paper several powerful transformations are discussed which make use of the correlations among the various spectral bands to distinguish more effectively differences between bands. These transformations are the Log Intensity Transformation, the Principal Component Transformation and the Hue, Saturation and Intensity Transformation. Examples are presented using plates of M82.
