A nonstationary one-dimensional model of the midlatitude F-region is presented in which the description of composition, dynamics, and thermal conditions is self-consistent. Model calculations of temperatures of electrons, ions, and neutral gas are compared with experimental data and empirical models for various conditions of the quiet ionosphere. Good agreement is found between the present model and the experimental results and empirical models.
