The cross sections for production of Be-7, Na-22, and Al-26 from the spallation of argon at, respectively, 480, 880, and 2980 MeV are measured, as well as the cross sections for Be-10 and Be-7 production from nitrogen at 450 and 2950 MeV, respectively. Results are compared with values calculated from the semi-empirical formula of Silbergerg and Tsao (1973). The production rates of Al-26 and Be-10 in the atmosphere by galactic cosmic rays are calculated from the measured cross sections. The rates are compared with experimental results, and the potential use of the Al-26/Be-10 ratio for dating marine sediments and evaluating cosmic dust influx is discussed in light of the cross section values.
