In combination with Weistrop's photometric distance determinations (1980), a calibration of Smethells' spectral-type luminosity relation was found to yield 29 more objects nearer than 25 parsecs. Tables for 33 red dwarf stars from the Catalogue of Nearby Stars (Liese, 1969), and the 29 new stars are given, with their various luminosity and parallax determinations. Further studies are suggested to determine the accuracy in distance determination by using photoelectric measurements of the apparent magnitudes so far known only by estimates. Smethells' list of red dwarf stars is seen as a valuable contribution toward a new catalog of nearby stars in southern declinations.
