This paper gives a detailed description of the spectacular behavior of the early Be star HD 200120, 59 Cyg from 1972 to 1976. This star, after having shown V/R variations in the emission line profiles, exhibited enhancements of the emission lines followed by a shell phase in mid-1973, in December 1974 and 1975. The second enhancement of the emission from the end of 1973 to mid-1974 was very prominent and the second shell phase was also much more important than that of 1973. A similar behavior of the temporary enhancement of the emission features and shell phases was also found in the literature for gamma Cas, another early Be star.
